1Day 1: Hanoi to Ha Giang by bus (300km)
Today You'll travel from Hanoi to Ha Giang. Several departure options are available, depending on your preferred schedule and bus type.
Morning option.
At 06:30, a minivan will pick you up from your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter and transfer you to the bus station. At 13:00, take the limousine (13 seats) to Ha Giang City.
At 11:00, a minivan will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station. At 17:00, board the VIP sleeper bus (22 cabin) to Ha Giang City.
Afternoon option.
At 12:30, a minivan will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station. At 20:00, take the VIP sleeper bus (22 cabin) to Ha Giang City.
At 15:00, a minivan will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station. At 22:30, board the limousine (13–15 seats) to Ha Giang City.
Evening option.
At 19:30, a minivan will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station. At 03:30 am, board the VIP sleeper bus (32/24 cabin) to Ha Giang City.
2Day 2: Ha Giang – Villages – Dong Van Ancient Town (135km)
Morning
At 03:30, arrive in Ha Giang City and rest for a few hours at our hostel before beginning the day’s journey. Around 07:30–08:00, enjoy breakfast in Ha Giang City.
At 08:30, start the scenic drive with several cultural and natural stops along the way. The first stop is Minh Tan Market (open on Saturday), where you can explore the lively atmosphere and see how locals trade their goods. Continue to Quan Ba Sky Gate for panoramic valley views, and take in the famous Quan Ba Twin Mountains, renowned for their natural beauty.
Around noon, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the journey.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, drive along Can Ty Slope, once known as the “Cu Vuong Road,” which served as the horse trail of the H’mong King long ago., a winding pass that offers stunning mountain scenery. Stop at Lao Xa Village, where you’ll discover the traditional silver-making craft of the Hmong people.
The route then leads to Sa Phin, within the Dong Van Geopark, and the historic H’mong King Palace, built in the late 19th century. This grand palace showcases a fascinating blend of multicultural architecture and tells captivating stories of Ha Giang’s past.
Arrive in Dong Van in the evening. At 19:00, enjoy dinner and relax at the homestay, with free time to rest after a full day of exploration.
3Day 3: Dong Van - Breathtaking Ma Pi Leng Pass - Du Gia (95 km)
Morning
Start the day with breakfast at the homestay at 07:30 before continuing your journey deeper into Ha Giang.
At 08:30, set out to explore the highlights along the route. Start at the Dong Van Local Market (open on Sundays), a bustling hub of culture where ethnic minorities gather to trade goods and socialize. From here, head towards the legendary Ma Pi Leng Peak, a spectacular 4 km stretch of the Sky Path that winds through limestone cliffs, Hmong villages, and cornfields.
Continue along the Ma Pi Leng Pass, stopping at the top viewpoint for a panorama of the Nho Que River snaking through the dramatic Tu San Valley. Then, embark on a Nho Que River boat trip, gliding between towering cliffs for an view.
(Or in summer, you may instead choose a bamboo rafting experience at Ang Stream, where you can swim, jump, and even explore a hidden cave).
Along the way, take the scenic M Road before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon
Afterward, explore the Lung Ho French Fort, the remains of a historic military outpost that now offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding mountains. A short stop at the Lung Ho Viewpoint follows, perfect for more stunning photos of Ha Giang’s dramatic landscape.
Arrive in Du Gia by late afternoon, where you’ll join a hands-on cooking class and enjoy the warm hospitality of your homestay, surrounded by mountain scenery.
After enjoying breakfast at the homestay at 08:00, begin the return journey to Ha Giang, with scenic stops along the way.
Your first highlight is the beautiful Du Gia Waterfalls. Ride past old traditional houses surrounded by lush rice fields and rolling hills until you reach the clearest stream. Here, take a refreshing swim in the cool waters and relax with cold beers and light snacks.
Continue to Thuong Village, where you’ll explore a local Hmong family and interact with the villagers. Meet local children at school and join them in a cheerful game of shuttlecock kicking - a way to connect with daily life in the mountains.
Before reaching Ha Giang, stop at Hidden Waterfalls, another stunning spot where you can enjoy swimming amidst pristine nature.
By 15:00, You'll arrive back in Ha Giang, concluding your loop through the landscapes and cultural highlights of the region.
